Critical Humanities in Community- and Nation-Building
The Nana Asma’u Study Centre, University of Abuja, invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit papers for its First International Conference.
In the first quarter of the twenty-first century, Nigeria and the world at large have witnessed an ever-increasing polarisation along lines of ethnicity, religion, social class, gender and other social categories, and ever-growing tensions in communities and challenges to society and nationhood.
Reflecting on this first quarter, and looking forward to the next, this conference draws attention to the concept of neighbourliness, as referring to the practice of every-day living together across social differences. The conference aims to foreground the role of the Humanities in critically and constructively promoting such a practice that is vital to community- and nation-building.
